The portals are physical points of interest where "human creativity and ingenuity is expressed" often manifesting as public art such as statues and monuments, unique architecture, outdoor murals, historic buildings, and other displays of human achievement. Within the game, human reactions to this discovery fall into two factions known as the Enlightened and the Resistance. The Enlightened faction embrace the powers of XM to transcend mankind and believe their mission is to assist in the enlightenment of mankind by harnessing this energy.
The Resistance faction see XM as a potential threat to humanity and believe their mission is to defend the human race by resisting the effects of those seeking to control others with XM.
Both teams have naturally tended to balance each other out in population. The gameplay of Ingress has been described as combining elements of geocaching with capture the flag.
A player using their mobile device or "scanner" is presented with a map representing the surrounding area.
Analytics For Ingress
The map has a black background and is completely unmarked, except for buildings and roads which are outlined in grey but not labeled, and bodies of water. Visible on the map are portals, Exotic Matter, links, and control fields. Distances from the player to in-game locations are displayed in metric units. Players must be physically near objects on the map to interact with them. A player sees only their own location and not any other player's. The color of the arrowhead corresponds with the player's faction.
A player can "hack" a nearby portal to acquire items, some of which can also be used to replenish XM. Players are rewarded with Action Points AP for actions within the game.
Accumulating AP beyond certain thresholds grants higher access levels. The game usually rewards more AP for taking over enemy portals than for maintaining your own team's; if a player is outnumbered by members of the other faction, they will tend to accumulate AP at a faster rate as a way of leveling the playing field.
In addition to earning AP, certain actions within the game can earn a player a medal. Medals are typically multi-tiered ranked Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Onyx respectively and become a requirement for level advancement beyond Level 8.
Some badges are exclusive and can only be obtained by attending special events. In SeptemberNiantic introduced missions to the game. A mission is a user-created set of places to visit waypoints and interact with in specified ways. Some missions list all the waypoints from the start, while others only reveal them one at a time as the user progresses from one to the next. Completing missions rewards the player with a mission medal displayed on their agent profile.
In the game, Earth has a large number of "portals", made visible by the scanner. They are colored green, blue, or grey, depending respectively on whether they are currently controlled by the Enlightened, by the Resistance, or are unclaimed.
Players claim portals for their faction by "deploying" at least one "resonator" on them.Account Options Sign in. Top charts. New releases. Intell for Ingress Omni - Digital Inc. Add to Wishlist. Intell for Ingress brings 2 great things to any serious agent 1.

Checkpoints are 5 hour MU progress checks for both the global and the Cell level. At every Checkpoint, the fields are assessed for their MU value and added together. Previous cycle scores can be viewed by tapping "History" at the bottom left corner. In addition, the top 50 agents from each faction are ranked by their MU control throughout the cycle, which can be seen by tapping "See other agents" under the cell map.
Cycles have no real effect on gameplay, other than acting as a scoreboard. Exotic Matter or XM is a resource collected by the Scanner and drained with most actions made with the scanner. XM is represented as glowing bluish-white dots throughout the world. XM tends to appear more around areas of high mobile phone usage, such as public transport stops and city centers. XM also appears clustered around a Portal. In addition to being unable to perform any actions that require XMa disabled scanner may not be able to perform other actions such as viewing resonators or mods.
A disabled scanner can still activate a Power Cube and Recycle items. To acquire XM from the ground, the scanner needs to be brought within the action range 40 meters, shown by the orange ring ; the XM will be drawn to the scanner and added to the total carried.
XM can be collected about every 3 seconds. The bar next to your level shows how much XM you have relative to your total capacity. Capacity increases along with your level. Mind Units MUs are the primary scoring metric of Ingress. Mind Units MUs are calculated once at each Checkpoint for Cell scores every 5 hours and combined into the Global score.
This competition hinges on maintaining control of those Mind Unit MU fields through key scoring Checkpoints that happen every 5 hours. Each competition period has a hour duration. Each geographic Cell has a unique codename. Cell codenames currently cannot be nicknamed by Agents. This score is an average of the Mind Units MUs that are maintained by each faction through the scoring Checkpoints that occur every 5 hours.
Touching History will show the historical results of Cycles for that particular Cell. Only the Agent who creates the third link and completes a Field will receive Mind Unit credit toward the Top Agents list.
If you created a Field that was destroyed before a Checkpoint measurement, the Mind Units MUs would count toward your Top Agents ranking but not towards the total regional Cell score.

Mods and other non-level items are usually between Common and Rare mods. Passcodes can be found hidden in various Ingress and Niantic Releases. The original source of them was P. Chapeau's The Sphere of Weirdnessa blog found at nianticproject.
Passcodes were hidden as ciphers, hidden as pixels in an image, or sometimes in plaintext. Passcodes are a public release, and lists of them are documented on many sites. But in order to keep the codes by being over-used, Ingress puts both an expiration date and a use counter on most passcodes. Depending on where a passcode is gotten from, and what it contains, they can have longer or shorter availability.
The age of a passcode can often be inferred by its encryption scheme. The newest passcodes as of Feb are in the format:. However, most passcodes you will find on the internet as of Aug will have the following format:.

The rest of this article describes the desktop version, but be aware that the mobile version lacks some of these features.
Note that the intel map currently does not support Facebook sign-in, so in order to view it, you must have your agent account bound to a Google account. When you first sign in, it will be zoomed out so that you can see the whole world. Keep in mind that it can take some time to load all the map data. As you move around, the cell located at the center of your view will be outlined in orange, although you may have to zoom out to see it. The resonators are organized as follows:.
The information displayed on the map can vary depending on your zoom level. The table below shows what is displayed at each zoom level:. When all portals become visible, the filters button toggles a panel that lets you hide portals by level or health. The missions button at the lower-right displays a list of the top 25 missions in your map view. Sometimes a portal will have an additional decoration on it to show that there is something special about it.
A small orange arrow displayed inside the portal indicates that it is the starting portal for a mission. Portals holding one or more artifacts are displayed with a large highlight over the center. Target portals for artifact delivery have a segmented ring around them; the segments light up as more artifacts are delivered to them. If an anomaly event is happening or is imminent in the area you are viewing and you are zoomed in close enough, the cluster portals will be decorated with rings around them called ornaments.
Each cluster has a different ornament color, and the start point and volatile portals have additional decorations on them. Note that volatile portals may or may not be revealed on the map, depending on the anomaly rules. A portal is displayed with additional decorations when there is a portal fracker left or a beacon right installed on it:. You can draw planned links between portals. This will highlight the portal with an orange reticle.
Now click on the other anchor portal. The portal information bubble will appear as you mouse over each portal to help you make sure you select the right one. This will draw an orange link between the two. Note that planned links do not consider each other to be blocking.
Unfortunately, the planned links are not persistent: if you close the intel map and return to it, the planned links will be gone. If you have more than 40 planned links on the map, only the last 40 will be preserved. The comm panel is found at the lower-left. It works just like the one in the scanner app, with the exception that there is no range slider.
